Welcome to the official website of the Woolacombe & Mortehoe Tourist Information Centre

We love welcoming visitors to Woolacombe & Mortehoe, however in these extenuating circumstances we continue to ask that  you respect our small community and do not visit us at this time.

** UPDATE – 28TH  MAY 2020 **

Mortehoe Parish Council Joint Statement with Parkin Estates, Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks  and the Woolacombe Bay Hotel.

”The Parish Council, major business owners and the operators of the main car parks in Woolacombe have met this morning and are looking to conduct a phased and safe re-opening during June and July, in accordance with Government guidance, insurance requirements, duty of care for staff and risk to the wider community.  Measures are being investigated to allow visitors and locals to benefit from the sea and open spaces in Woolacombe. Social distancing and personal hygiene remain priorities.

We are grateful to the Police and Devon County Council for their help and support in dealing with the unprecedented numbers of illegal parking last week (Wednesday 20th May).

We would love to welcome all visitors back but the changes to the lockdown are limited. It has not been lifted and we still have a long way to go. While this next phase feels significant, it is certainly not a return to normality.  As all the majority of hospitality businesses including shops, campsites, restaurants, cafés remain closed and there are limited toilet and rubbish collection facilities in Mortehoe and Woolacombe, we have made the decision not to open our car parks just yet.

ALL CAR PARKS IN WOOLACOMBE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED AND THE VILLAGE HAS A LIMITED CAPACITY FOR VISITORS.  ALL ON-STREET PARKING REGULATIONS WILL BE SUBJECT TO ENFORCEMENT. THERE ARE NO RNLI LIFEGUARDS PATROLLING THE BEACH.

This has been done in the interests of the health and wellbeing of those living within our community, the vulnerable, N.H.S and key workers. This is a temporary position. We will monitor the situation carefully and welcome all visitors back when it is considered safe and appropriate and in line with Government guidance. Thank you.”

Our hospital, medical centres and shops are keeping up with local demand however, additional visitors will have a massive impact on this, put unnecessary strain on our resources and will undoubtedly speed up the spread of this awful virus.

If you have already booked a holiday here in the coming few weeks, please contact your holiday provider and ask about postponing your stay to a later date. (Please bear with them though as many businesses are inundated with enquiries, and will be trying to prioritise bookings in date order).

We wish you all well and look forward to seeing you when the time is right…. stay well.
