Beach hut bliss during the heatwave!
I was lucky enough to have a Woolacombe Beach hut for a few days during the last hot spell, and even though I was working, it made such a difference. Early morning coffee with a book outside the hut, then a late afternoon swim and pizza on the sand… absolute heaven.
Having somewhere to leave all my beach and swimming bits meant I could pop over to Number 42 (Rachel) without lugging everything around, and it’s such a treat having a deckchair ready and waiting. On my day off — a very hot one — I made it down by 8.30am.
With the sun behind me, the huts gave lovely shade for most of the morning. After a couple of dips in the sea, the heat finally won and I wandered home to tackle some chores. The seasoned beach hutters around me were far more prepared with gazebos and parasols… definitely worth bringing if the temperatures soar!
Dog friendly area The beach huts sit within Woolacombe’s dog friendly zone, so your four legged friends are welcome too. Dogs must stay on a lead in this area, but they can enjoy some off lead freedom past Mill Rock, at the end of the beach hut line. 
A quick reminder: during very high temperatures, it’s best to keep dogs off the beach altogether — the sand can become dangerously hot, and the heat can be overwhelming even in the shade.
About the beach huts There are 70 huts, each with a number and a traditional girls’ name. Every hut comes with: • Two deckchairs • A patio table and two chairs • A windbreak • A mallet (for the windbreak!)
Safety on the beach Woolacombe is an RNLI lifeguarded beach, with trained lifeguards on duty to help keep families safe in the water. Always swim between the red and yellow flags, and follow any guidance given on the day.

Shorter stays If you only need a hut for a day or two, shorter bookings are usually available about a week beforehand through the Beach Hut Office.

Seasonal availability The beach huts stay on the beach until early September, when they’re packed away for the winter to protect them from very high tides and stormy weather.
A beach hut really does make Woolacombe days even more special — highly recommended for a bit of seaside comfort!
