Springtime on the Farm

Springtime at Lower Campscott Farm Lee Woolacombe

It’s been a busy time at Lower Campscott Farm since they closed for the winter.  Here's what they've been up to ...

''We’ve used the time to get lots of jobs ticked off the list ready for when we open again in the spring which, despite the mix of weather, is definitely on its way.

We've been felling some trees that were a bit close to our lodges or had started to obscure our fantastic views. We’re recycling them as poles for field shelters for our outdoor animals, as well as for wood chippings around the farm and in the flowerbeds, along with firewood for the log burners in Fuchsia and Hydrangea. Lighting a log burner after a day of exploring outside is always a welcome treat.

Pinetree is undergoing maintenance work; we’re giving the shower / wet room a facelift! The lodge is all on one level, with a bathroom, four bedrooms, and now, a new improved shower room. The views from the open plan kitchen and living area are still stunning – glass in hand, watching the sun set over the sea during the summer is something we just can’t get enough of.

The safety of our guests is something we never take for granted, and this winter we’ve been concentrating on fire safety, installing new alarm systems in each of the cottages and lodges, and making sure they’re approved by a qualified fire risk assessor. It’s hard work, but we want to make sure everything is in place, ready and fully compliant when we reopen next month.

Poor Anoushka Rabbit has been a bit lonely, but not for much longer; we are currently sitting with our most recent arrival to the farm: Fudge the rabbit is keeping us company in the office. She’s looking forward to meeting Anoushka – we’re sure
they will get on famously!

It won't be long now before we have the sound of bleating lambs in the barn, and then we’ll be on the lookout for willing volunteers to help with the daily bottle feeding, and also to help Farmer Tony on his morning farmer's rounds, not to mention
enjoying a tractor and trailer ride which is always a popular activity on the farm with adults and children alike''.

Lower Campscott Farm re-opens for the season on Friday 22nd March, and there is plenty of availability that week, with slightly limited availability for the Easter Holidays.
